Muay Thai originated from Cambodia. That fighting art spread to the Thailand region. The Thais now call it Muay Thai.
It is called pradal serey in Cambodia. Muay Thai became popular from Thailand while there was a mass genocide (war) in Cambodia in the 1970s. While Muay Thai was becoming popular worldwide, many of the pradal serey masters and practitioners in Cambodia were dying to a genocide.
There is historic evidence to prove it. There is evidence of it on the bas reliefs of Angkor Wat, Cambodian territory back then and now.
Plus Thailand has been claiming things as theirs, such as that fighting art and even Angkorian temples such as the famous Angkor Wat. Read the news on it if you're interested. The last one happened recently (within 2-3 years?). You can ask anyone that has been to Cambodia about pradal serey, preferably someone not from Thailand.
"Muay Thai originated from an early version of it named Muay Boran.
Muay Boran was a devastasting martial art developed in Thailand by Thai soldiers."
Muay Boran came from Kbach Kun Boran Khmer which is from Cambodia. I have never trained Muay Boran (Thailand) but many say that Muay Boran has less forms than Cambodia's Kbach Kun Boran Khmer. So you can say Cambodia's Kbach Kun Boran Khmer is more complete. And older.

I'm currently training where it's originated, Thailand!
If you ever get the chance to travel and train in a martial art - come here, the weather is beautiful, the people are so friendly and the training is top notch. Not to mention watching the fights here is amazing.
Muay Boran is some bad *** stuff by the way haha
Thailand, but some people say its was heavily influenced by Bokator (a martial art from Cambodia)
In muy Thai-land, of course!
