slugs arent nocturnal, they just prefer it damp and dark. they all come out when its raining...
Slugs are legless, boneless creatures. They are similar to snails, but have a raised mantle on the back instead of the familiar shell. Slugs are nocturnal feeders, hiding during daylight hours. They have/do this because of evolution... why do mice of the desert have extra long ears... to hear better when predators are coming and this also was developed during years of evolution.
Because sunlight is too strong for there skin or slim what have you. The sun heats up there slim to the point of drying them out, that's why slugs go for shells to protect there bodies from the sun. And if you was as slow as they was, wouldn't you move around at night when no one is awake
The sun will dry them out..more moisture at night.
take a look would you allow them out in the day
