To make them feel loved and they matter. If you show that you are proud, the person will feel that whatever hardship she/he encountered is worth it because she/he makes you proud.
And sometimes
if you only recognize someone's achievement because of insecurity or jealousy—whatever it is—stop. You don't have to recognize it. it's bad for your mental health and might affect your environment or the people around you.
