Answer:
It depends on where you are and at what type of school you are located. Elementary school tends to not focus as much on science because they view the most important courses as ELA and Math. However, it is very important to begin introducing students to science as early as possible. Science helps create the ability to think critically, which is a skill needed in every work of life.
Science tends to gain more importance in middle school, and even more importance in high school, where students start to make choices about what interests them and what could possibly be a goal for them as a career. Here science gains importance because students start to see how many careers depend on the STEM fields.
Now, in many different religious schools, they may disregard science or teach it as something that you just have to know to get through life, but something that isn’t necessarily true. Some religious schools will teach students what others are being taught but tell them how to counter the scientific claims. This tends to happen because they are unable to understand that religion and science are two different things. You don’t believe in science, like they say…”gravity, it’s not just a good idea, it’s a law!”
Regardless, I feel that the importance of science education is starting to grow as more and more people realize the importance of a good knowledge of science in the real world. I also think that as the older generation moves out of politics and the millennials take over the government there will be a big change in the educational system!
