ancient "lighter" flint using shale, or static shock -used by cavemen - after Neanderthals. (Watch "Quest For Fire the movie) -- matches had to wait for gunpowder and fireworks stuff developed by Chinese in the early centuries.
A lighter is a miniature lamp. Lamps were invented first so naturally a lighter would come along quickly after the lamp.
because matches required chemistry and design to work....lighters required ingenuity...that ..was around in those days ...wicks could me made and any flammable liquid used...and flint was the perfect material to cause a spark... they were very basic ..but they worked ..
don't know where you got that information
matches came before the lighter
it wasn't.
was it?
