Answer:
It is important to observe the difference between the animals that are both running, where one is running away from something and one is running towards something. This is an eloquent representation in nature of two groups in society; where one group’s hustle stems internally while the other group’s hustle stems externally.
Some of us are doing what we do because it is the societal norm and it is what society wants us to be. Those who are externally motivated are always worried about keeping up with the norms, doing what other people do and running senselessly towards everything that looks appealing. Essentially, they don’t have much purpose behind their actions and they define their lives merely by observing the outcomes of other people’s lives. So people chasing a type of success that is mostly defined by society and people around them are analogous to the gazelle, running simply because something is externally pushing them. Their drive and initiative is solely dependent on external factors, just like the gazelle is only running because the lion is chasing it. The danger of being a gazelle is that when these external motivating factors change or don’t motivate you no longer, you stop running.
