The newer 360 should have fewer red rings of death if overheating is to blame. The newer 360 with the Falcon chip runs a lot cooler than the old 360 models. But the overheating isn't to be solely blamed on the CPU. It could be the GPU, which is what many sites believe is the main cause of the red ring of death. That's why MS is going to release a 65 nm GPU chip in the future. There could be other flaws that's causing the ring of death. MS isn't even sure. All it's doing it taking a process of elimination process. Start with one cause, fix it and see if something else comes up. If it does, work on it and then see if a 3rd problem exists. If it does, fix it. Repeat until the ring of death doesn't show up.
Do NOT use a cooling unit. If it melts in your 360, MS will not fix it. The cooling fan voids all of the 360's warranty.
I bought the 360 pro package last year and by this time now, its disc-reader was all screwed up... if you're going to get an xbox, get the 360 Elite; I traded my pro console in and got the Elite and it's pretty good so far.
The newer ones have a new fan in them, so less overheating, my friend and I have 360's, never had problems. Taking good care of it will be your biggest concern- well ventilated area, and don't move it while it's on. Buy it! Great investment! Plus 3 years of free repairs if something does go wrong.
Yes, i have an older Xbox 360, and it did break down. But i just contacted Microsoft, and they took care of it. They will mail you a self addressed box. You put the Xbox in it, and mail it back to them. you'll get it back around 2 weeks later in great working condition.
Ya they do have glitches but those were the early ones as long as you dont do somthing stupid like set it on its side in a cofined space or preety much just make sure you keep it cool. You can buy a cooling system for like 20$ if your paranoid but the cooling system will give ur machine lesser odds of melting your disk into plastic slop
Well, I got one Last Year.
And for this past year I haven't yet had a single problem with it.
So, you should get one.
But when/if you get it...
Keep it clean, put it on an open space, don't let dust clog it up. Little things like them is what I have done for this past year and Ive had 0 Problems with it.
But if something does happen to it (IE Red Ring of Death (RRoD)) then just contact Microsoft and they should fix it for you. (At least thats what ive heard anyway.)
My son wants one too ~ and I've done a lot of research ~ the latest information I've found is that a lot of the "glitches" were worked out and the newest ones to the shelf should be working fine. Good luck!
You should definetly get it. Only 3% of people ever experience problems with it and mostly they are overheating. I got mine over Thanksgiving and it works fine.
